Nightsiren (Slovak: Svetlonoc, Czech: Světlonoc) is a 2022 Slovak-Czech psychological mysterious feminist movie by the director Tereza Nvotová. The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Golden Leopard – Filmmakers of the Present award.[1]

Plot

Eight-year-old Šarlota accidentally pushes her younger sister off a cliff. Realizing what she's done, she panics and runs away from home. She only returns as an adult, settling in a cabin in the mountains, feared by locals who believe a witch once lived there. Šarlota doesn't believe in witches, but when she learns that a small child was found there, she becomes interested in the story, hoping it could be her sister who survived the fall. The villagers refuse to talk about it and soon start suspecting Šarlota of witchcraft too.
