Gatesville is a town in Gates County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 321 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gates County.[4]
The area which presently encompasses Gatesville was originally known as Bennetts Creek Landing. From 1779 it was known as Gates Courthouse until its incorporation in 1830 as Gatesville,[5] being named for Horatio Gates, a commander in the American Revolutionary War.[6]
The Elmwood Plantation, Eure-Roberts House, Gates County Courthouse, Roberts-Carter House, Rountree Family Farm and Reid's Grove School are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[7]

There were 142 housing units at an average density of 341.5sp=usNaNsp=us. The racial makeup of the town was 87.54% White, 11.03% African American, 0.36% Native American, and 1.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.36% of the population.
There were 117 households, out of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% were non-families. 29.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.3% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 82.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.8 males.
